Munk

Jeg skulle bruge en illustration til begrebet “munk” (en af de religiøse, ikke fuglen med samme navn). Og hvad gør man så? Man foretager naturligvis en billedsøgning på Google på “monk”.

Resultat nr. 6 i søgningen var nedenstående billede… – og hvad har hun så med en munk at gøre? Jo, hun hedder faktisk Sophie Monk

Og egentlig kunne jeg fint bruge billedet, da det er en opfordring til at “go vegetarian!”, hvad jeg støtter helt og fuldt… – og så er det jo også et ganske kønt billede!

Billedet er oprindelig en del af en kampagne for dyrevelfærd og specielt imod pelsproduktion. En kampagne iværksat af organisationen PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)

Vi taler så meget om, at vi skal nedbringe udledningen af CO2 drastisk for at forhindre en katastrofal global opvarmning… – måske er det rigtigt… – måske er det ikke rigtigt?!

Nu ser det (måske) ud til, at risikoen tværtimod er en global afkøling…

Hvad skal man efterhånden tro på???

Though the terminology of one seer or religious tradition differs from another, we must see that, ultimately, there is agreement among them all as well.  Plato and Jesus, Plotinus and Shankara, along with all the Buddhas, saints and seers who ever lived, would surely agree that , in every direction, and beyond, in the past, present and the future, there is only the One, without a second.  In all His manifestations, through all the worlds, in all His creatures and in the heavens above, there is only the One, without a second.  He is the everlasting Self of all.

“The Self of all?  We do not accept that any ‘Self’ exists.”

“Couldn’t we say, ‘the inner Christ’?”

“Or perhaps simply ‘the Truth of all’.”

“What about ‘the Consciousness of all’”.

“Or just ‘the God within’”.

“Or maybe a more neutral term, like ‘Suchness’”.

You see, words are the problem.  No one can agree upon the correct word to be used to designate that which transcends all concepts, words, and designations. To those who know that One, words do not present a problem.  But for those who know only words, only the ‘correct’ words will do.  The experience, on the other hand, is the same for all.

En berømt Vismand i det gamle Indien kom engang forbi et stort træ hvorunder der sad en mand med et sammenbidt beslutsomt ansigt og mediterede. Den mediterende mand åbnede sine øjne og genkendte straks Vismanden.

Oh, Vismand! sagde han, jeg har mediteret fra morgen til aften i 33 år. Hvornår bliver jeg oplyst?

Vismanden svarede: Du bliver oplyst efter tre livs yderligere meditation.

Manden under træet gav sig til at græde: Tre liv mere! Jeg holder det ikke ud… Det er for hårdt… hele tre liv mere … åh nej!

Vismanden begav sig videre på sin vandring og mødte kort tid efter en ung mand der muntert kom ham i møde, syngende glade sange om livets vidunderlige mysterium. Den unge mand gav Vismanden det samme spørgsmål:

Oh, Vismand! Hvornår bliver jeg oplyst?
Vismanden svarede: Du bliver fri efter 1000 inkarnationer mere…

Dun unge mand gav sig til at juble og danse. Kun 1000 liv? Ikke mere end 1000 liv!! Hvilken pragtfuld nyhed! Den unge mand gav sig til at synge endnu højere, og han begyndte at danse…

Netop i dette øjeblik blev den unge mand oplyst.
